Renault South Africa has officially reintroduced the Trafic Passenger to the local market, bringing back one of the brand’s most recognised global nameplates after almost two decades of absence from South Africa. The launch took place during an exclusive media and stakeholder event, showcasing a vehicle built to meet the mobility needs of families, shuttle operators and business customers.

The Trafic Passenger’s return forms part of Renault’s ongoing product offensive strategy and strengthens the brand’s local offering across both the passenger and light commercial vehicle segments. Globally, the Trafic nameplate has built a reputation for durability, practicality and adaptability, and its reintroduction now gives Renault South Africa a dedicated people-moving solution for modern transport needs.

Seating for Nine, Without Giving Up Comfort

Designed as a partner for every journey, the Trafic Passenger combines advanced technology with genuine versatility in a vehicle capable of accommodating up to nine people, whether for large families or business customers looking for a premium people-mover.

Inside, the cabin puts comfort and connectivity front and centre. The smart cockpit features an 8-inch multimedia display, a digital instrument panel and smartphone mirroring through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Depending on the derivative, buyers can also get a wireless smartphone charger, a heated driver’s seat and premium upholstery finishes. Passengers benefit from up to 84.2 litres of storage space spread throughout the cabin.

One Vehicle, Two Jobs: People or Cargo

Versatility is one of the Trafic Passenger’s defining traits. Its modular interior supports multiple seating configurations, and cargo capacity can expand up to 6,000 litres depending on the layout chosen, letting the vehicle shift seamlessly between passenger transport and cargo carrying duties. That flexibility widens the range of passenger transport applications the Trafic can realistically handle, from school runs to shuttle work to weekend hauling.

Recognisably Renault, Inside and Out

The Trafic Passenger carries Renault’s design language clearly, with signature Pure Vision C-shaped LED headlights, the brand’s refreshed diamond logo and 16-inch alloy wheels giving it a confident road presence. Inside, the layout is built to create a stronger sense of space for both drivers and passengers.

Buyers can also personalise the vehicle through a range of accessories, including roof bars, roof boxes, side steps, towbar options and illuminated door sills, tailoring it to personal or business use.

Safety Standard Across the Range

Every Trafic Passenger comes with rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring and six airbags covering the front driver, passenger, side and curtain positions. Higher-spec models add 360-degree parking sensors to assist with manoeuvring in tight spaces.

The vehicle also falls under Renault’s broader Human First Programme, a global safety initiative aimed at protecting all road users through advanced technology, driver support and collaboration with first responders.

What's Under the Bonnet

Power comes from Renault’s proven 2.0L dCi turbo diesel engine, delivering 125kW and 380Nm, paired with a 9-speed EAG9 automatic transmission for a balance of performance, refinement and efficiency.

Ownership is backed by a 5-year/150,000km mechanical warranty, a 5-year/90,000km service plan and 24-hour roadside assistance.
